The Africa MICE Summit is the leading platform for the growth & development of the business events industry in Africa. The Summit showcases sustainable innovations, technology solutions, industry development programs as well as investment & partnership opportunities in the Meetings & Events in Africa.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020, the Africa MICE Summit hosted the 1st Africa MICE Industry Stakeholders Round Table.
In celebration of the Africa Meetings Industry Day on 9th September, 2021, the Summit hosted the High Level MICE Industry Stakeholders Round Table in a bid to dialogue on continental strategies for the recovery and growth of the business tourism sector in Africa.
The high level roundtable which was moderated by Ms. Linda Pereira of CPL Meetings & Events, Portugal featured the following speakers: H. E. Amb. A. Muchanga - Commissioner for Trade & Industry, Africa Union Commission; Jose da Silva Goncalves - Trade, Investment & Private Sector Development Consultant and Former Minister, Maritime Economy, Tourism and Transportation, Cabo Verde; Yves Ngenzi – Regional Coordinator, East Africa Tourism Platform; Tes Poos – President, SITE Africa; and Sean Mendis – Aviation Expert
The objective of the round table was to identify opportunities for the MICE industry to play a significant role in Africa’s post-COVID recovery efforts.
The roundtable drew from the opportunities for MICE Tourism within the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and conceptualized the harmonization of Africa’s recovery initiatives so as to spur trade and business within and toward the continent.
Africa MICE Summit also hosted the Future Leaders Summit on 9th September, 2021.
Our Future Leaders Summit which is specifically designed to mentor students and young professionals in the tourism, MICE and hospitality sector in Africa. This program is specifically aligned to the mission of the Africa MICE Summit to make a contribution in the human capital development for Africa’s business tourism sector.
Sessions during the Future Leaders Summit were facilitated by industry associations, including Meetings Professionals International (MPI), Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE), Southern African Communications Industries Association (SACIA), Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAXO), Event Greening Forum (EGF), Southern Africa Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI), among others.
The event attracted over 350 registrations from 36 countries.
